Kohn's Corner

Jerry Boyd's list, 2nd five (in no particular order)

Artist/Group: Chet Atkins

CD Title: Sails

Comments: Chet is a finger-picking guitarist with his roots deep in Nashville but Sails is more smooth jazz in its sound.  An entirely instrumental CD.

Artist/Group: David Bromberg

CD Title: How Late’ll Ya Play Till  (2 album set)

Comments: David is a blues player who has a very original style.  The style is impressive, but his talent, and the talent of the musicians who play with him is first rate.  Midnight On The Water is another fine album of his.

Artist/Group: Jerry Jeff Walker

CD Title: Too Old To Change

Comments: Nobody ever accused Jerry Jeff of being a first rate musician, but I love his style.  I think I’ve been more influenced by Jerry Jeff as an example of life style than anything.  His music speaks of freedom and rich experience.

Artist/Group: Leo Kottke

CD Title: Chewing Pine

Comments: I choose this album because it was the first one I got of Leo's.  If you don’t know of Leo Kottke, I would only say that you should seek him out and listen to him.  Listen to him with the volume turned up and the lights down low.  Have yourself a beer.  Try to keep up.

Artist/Group: Alison Krauss

CD Title:  Now That I’ve Found You

Comments: I’m told that this CD has achieved commercial success.  I wouldn’t know, I haven’t listened to commercial radio in years.  If it has, then commercial radio has finally come to its senses where music is concerned.  This woman has an awesome voice and a wonderful choice in songs.  Tie that together with the simple yet talented musicians that back her up and you have a winner.
